La Banda De Pandas vs Arctic Sheepshaggers — Week 2 Recap

The Result

Arctic Sheepshaggers (Thomas) took this one 112.38 to 69.62, a 42.76-point beatdown. Thomas's squad blew past its 100.49 projection to the tune of 112.38, while Alex's Pandas cratered — projected for 102.48, they managed only 69.62. When one side clears its number by double digits and the other misses it by more than 30, there's no complicated story here. It's just a bad week for the Pandas.

The Correction

The preview called this: La Banda De Pandas (Alex), by 2.72. That's not just wrong, it's wrong by nearly 46 points of margin-swing. Verdict: miss. Season record on these calls now sits at 2 of 12. I said Alex by a field goal. Thomas won by five touchdowns' worth of scoring differential. File it.

Who Delivered, Who Didn't

CeeDee Lamb was the whole ballgame for Arctic Sheepshaggers — 31.3 actual against a 14.87 projection, more than double what was expected. Omarion Hampton chipped in 16.5 against a 12.31 projection, and Kyren Williams added 14.7 actual points with no projection on record to compare against, but that's a real number on the board regardless.

On the other side, the Pandas got nothing from three spots. Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST returned just 2 points, Kenyon Sadiq gave them 2.7 at tight end, and Jameson Williams managed only 4.3 at receiver. None of those three had projections attached, but you don't need a projection to know 2, 2.7, and 4.3 are not winning numbers.

The Bench

This is where it gets painful for Alex. Matthew Stafford dropped 26.98 on the bench while Deebo Samuel started and scored 5 — that's 21.98 points left in the tank, more than half the eventual margin right there. Braelon Allen added 8 on the bench against a started Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST that scored 2, costing 6 more. Xavier Worthy sat with 11 points while Rome Odunze played and scored 5.8, a 5.2-point gap. And Tre' Harris scored 5.8 on the bench while Kenyon Sadiq started for 2.7, another 3.1 lost. Add it up across four decisions and that's a lot of points never used.

The Swing

The margin was 42.76. Even the single biggest bench regret — Stafford's 21.98 points left unused — doesn't come close to covering that gap. This wasn't a game decided by one bad call in the lineup; the Pandas were beaten across the board, and the sheet confirms it: no single swap closes a 42.76-point loss.

Arctic Sheepshaggers won three of five position groups, and the wide receiver gap — -32.3 in Thomas's favor, driven largely by Lamb's monster day — was the whole story. The Pandas' lone bright spot was the run game, where they out-produced Thomas 34.8 to 22.6.

Standings Impact

Both clubs came in at 1-1, and this league needs 6 wins to make the playoffs with 4 or fewer risking the Pink last-place finish. With 12 weeks remaining, nobody's cooked after one bad week, but the human consensus power rankings had the Pandas rated far better than this — 4.25 against Arctic Sheepshaggers' 12 — and results like this one are exactly what closes that gap. Thomas just banked a signature win against a team ranked well above him in the room's eyes, and Alex needs to show this was a one-week outlier and not a trend, especially with Stafford clearly capable of more than what got started this week.
